Guggenheim Past Present Future
Recent history of Guggenheim Museum have placed great importance on Architecture as an agent of change in the city where they are located.
Our concept for Guggenheim Helsinki, is in consistent with the proposition that Architecture has the potential to effect change, but although, we understand, not as a standalone Sculptural element to bring that element of surprise, but by acting as a medium that encourages complex civic experiences involving Art in the city.
Our response is to design a Museum, as a piece of Timeless Architecture, as a social and environmental act that changes face, rather than a stationary formal object.
Our concept is to initiate a permanent dialogue between the Architecture and the City through - a narrative, through form.
A Narrative by creating a Multileveled Civic Experience at Helsinki.
- The Civic plaza - as a flexible space to hold different seasonal programmes
- Introducing different levels of connectivity-
a. Connection from Tahititornin Vuori park to the Museum Civic plaza on the upper level through a 'Landscaped bridge'
b. Connection of Civic plaza to Laivasillankatu' through' the Museum public exhibition area, thereby connecting Tahiti- tornin Vuori Park to the proposed pedestrian promenade on Laivasillankatu. This should be a very experiential circulation route walking through the built environment from the park.
c. Proposal to connect the pedestrian bridge to the pedestrian deck at Olympia terminal to encourage better circulation. - An Architecture that camouflages with the surrounding and also pops out as a special element of surprise during seasonal changes.
- Creating a memory - Elevation of the Art Exhibition space- Floating box as a permanent reminder of the Art and simultaneously making Helsinki a permanent exhibit from the outer ring of the Gallery.
- Uninterrupted view from Tahititornin Vuori Park - Elevating the gallery space is also to bring an uninterrupted view from the Park.
In consistent with Finnish ideology, we take root in the sublime land- scape of Finland as our inspiration for the Architecture. If one of the aim is to bring forth the influence of Nordic ideals, this Nordic identity should emanate directly from the landscape of the region. The cloud, the forest, the boats all have a part in the Architecture. An Abstraction of Finnish Landscape to for the basis for Architecture
